WACO, Texas - Baylor's 22nd-ranked men's golf team will participate in its fifth consecutive NCAA championships May 16-18 as one of 27 schools assigned to play in the 2002 NCAA Men's Golf Championships Central Regional in Little Rock, Ark., the NCAA announced Monday.

Baylor has made the NCAA regionals every year since 1998, all under head coach Tim Hobby. The school's top finish was 10th place, at the 2000 Central Regional in Victoria, Texas.

The Bears are seeded ninth at the 2002 Central Regional, to be held at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Little Rock. In addition to Baylor, the field for the 2002 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships Central Regional includes: Alabama, Arkansas State, Army, Austin Peay, Colorado, Houston, Illinois, Jackson State, Kansas, Lamar, LSU, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Princeton, Purdue, SMU, St. Johns, TCU, Texas-Arlington, Toledo, Tulsa and Virginia Tech.

The top 10 schools from each of three regions will advance to the championship finals to be held May 29 through June 1 at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

Baylor is ranked 22nd nationally by GOLFSTAT, and 24th in the latest Precept Coaches Poll.
