WACO, Texas - Six Baylor student-athletes were named to the 2002 All-Big 12 Conference Baseball Team, selected by the league's coaches and announced by the conference Monday.
Three Bears were named to the league's first team in first baseman Mike Huggins, designated hitter Ross Bennett and starting pitcher Justin Taylor. Three more earned selection to the second team: shortstop Trey Webb, outfielder Chris Durbin and reliever Kyle Edens.
Durbin was a first team All-Big 12 selection by the coaches a year ago, while Taylor was named to the second team last season. Huggins, Bennett, Webb and Edens each received their first all-conference selection.
Baylor tied Texas for the most all-Big 12 honorees this year; the Longhorns also had six players selected, including Pitcher of the Year Justin Simmons. With three first-team selections, the Bears matched Nebraska, Texas and Texas Tech for the most all-Big 12 first team players.
Through the first six seasons of the Big 12 Conference, Baylor leads the league in All-Big 12 First Team selections (18) and Academic All-Big 12 First Team selections (30).
The Bears' season continues Friday as they face Lamar in NCAA Tournament first round action at Disch-Falk Field on the Texas campus.
