WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team is in second place after the first two rounds of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. The tournament is being held at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course in Norman, Okla. The course is a 5,310-yard, par 72.
The Bears, ranked 32nd nationally by Golfstat, shot 300 and 299 (599) today to secure the second place spot by 11 strokes. Oklahoma leads the field after posting 586.
Rounding out the individual scoring for Baylor, junior Melanie Hagewood leads the Bears after rounds of 71 and 73 (144) putting her in a tie for second place. Hagewood is followed by senior Tara Bateman who is in fourth place after carding 145 (74-71). Sophomore Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson shot 77-77 (154), which ties her at 18th place. Sophomore Michaelyn Morgan is also tied for 18th place after shooting 80-74 (154) and senior Nicole Johnson is tied for 29th place after recording rounds of 78-78 (156).
The current top five teams at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic are Oklahoma (586), Baylor (599), Arkansas-Little Rock (610), Kansas State (614), and Texas A&M (616).
The final round of the tournament will begin tomorrow at 7:44 a.m. The Bears will continue tournament play after the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic with a trip to the Big 12 Championships.
