BRADENTON, Fla. - Former Baylor ace pitcher and 1998 first-round draft pick Kip Wells is writing a column from spring training for the official Major League Baseball website at MLB.com.
Wells, who spent his first three seasons in the big leagues with the Chicago White Sox, was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the offseason and is reporting from the Pirates' camp in Bradenton, Fla.
The right-handed pitcher set the Baylor single season records for wins (13) and games started (19) as a junior in 1998 while leading the Bears to their first NCAA Regional under head coach Steve Smith. Wells was drafted in the first round that June (16th pick overall) by the White Sox and reached the majors in 1998.
