ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Freshman Ryan Baca led Baylor's men's golf team to a five-stroke victory at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor Michigan Sunday.

Baca followed an opening round of 72 by shooting a team-best 68 Sunday for a two-round score of 140. Baca was then victorious in a playoff against Mike Gant of Ball State, capturing the tournament's individual title.

Baca finished 36th in a 75-man field in his only other collegiate tournament three weeks ago at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate Invitational in South Carolina.

The Bears (296-278=574) as a team finished just five over par. Minnesota (579) finished second in the 20-team field followed by Indiana (586), Michigan State (587), Northwestern (591), Ball State (592) and host Michigan (593).

Sophomores Will Doughtie and Adam Meyer also placed well. Doughtie (75-68=143) finished tied for seventh after shooting three under-par Sunday and Meyer (74-70=144) also shot better Sunday in route to a ninth-place finish.

Junior Jamie McLeary (75-72= 147) finished tied for 20th overall. McLeary shot a one-over 72 Sunday. Sophomore Jon Antunes (77-74=151) also improved Sunday by shooting a three-over 74.

The victory is Baylor's first tournament win since capturing the Big 12 Championship last spring in Hutchison, Kan.

The Bears will continue their fall schedule on October 8 when they travel to Columbia, Mo. for the Purina Classic.
