WACO, Texas - Baylor baseball head coach Steve Smith announced the team's 2002 schedule Wednesday.

After opening with a home game against Southwest Texas, the Bears head to Rice for the Astros College Classic, played at Enron Field in Houston. Baylor will face former Southwest Conference foes Rice, Houston and TCU in the tournament.

Enron Field is just one of three major league parks Baylor will play in during the 2002 season. For the second weekend of the spring, the Bears face USC at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, and in May, The Ballpark in Arlington will host the Big 12 Tournament for the first time.

Eight of the Bears' 2002 opponents qualified for the NCAA Tournament a year ago: Rice, Houston, USC, UT-Arlington, Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. USC and Nebraska were two of the eight College World Series participants last year.

Baylor's schedule includes home games against Big 12 Conference rivals Texas (one game), Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M (two games).

Play begins for the Bears Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. when Baylor hosts Southwest Texas at the Baylor Ballpark.
