KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Behind Adam Meyer's two round four-under performance, the Baylor men's golf team stands in sixth place after the first two rounds of the Kiawah Island Invitational in Kiawah Island, S.C. Monday.
Meyer a sophomore from Waco, Texas is tied for fifth overall after shooting opening rounds of 71 and 69.
Tournament host College of Charleston leads the 15-team field with a 10-under 566 followed by BYU, Alabama and Augusta State (all 569). South Alabama (571) stands two shots in front of Baylor in fifth place.
Baylor is seven strokes off the lead, after shooting rounds of 290 and a 283.
Meyer opened the day with a round of 71 and finished with a 69 in the second round to move to 4-under-par for the tournament. Freshman Ryan Baca from Sugar Land, Texas, also placed well, opening the tournament with a 71 and finishing with a 73, shooting an even par for the day.
Will Doughtie and Jamie McLeary improved from their opening rounds and are tied at 27th. Doughtie followed an opening round 75 with 70 and McLeary bettered his opening round 74 with a closing round of 71.
Sophomore Jon Antunes is currently tied for 48th overall. Antunes followed an opening round 74 with a 76.
The final round will begin Tuesday at 8 a.m. at Osprey Point in Charleston tomorrow.
