Softball Adds Coach

Waco - Mary Ann Jennings has been hired as an assistant softball coach Baylor head coach Glenn Moore announced today.

Jennings has served as head softball coach at the University of Mobile in Alabama for the past 12 years. She has led her team to the NAIA national tournament seven of the last eight years and finished as high as fourth. Jennings has coached 17 All-Americans, five academic All-Americans and one NAIA Pitcher of the Year. In addition, Jennings has been honored as NAIA Southwest Regional Coach of the Year in 1997, 1998 and 2000, Conference Coach of the Year four times (1996, 1997, 1998, 2000) and NFCA/NAIA Regional Coach of the Year in 1993, 1994 and 1998. She owns a career coaching record of 479-176-1.

Jennings has traveled and gained experience overseas as well. In 1994 she coached an Athletes in Action team that toured the Czech Republic and Russia. She traveled to the Czech Republic again in 1997 coaching Team America and conducted softball camps in the summer of 2000 in Shanghai, China.

She earned her bachelor of science and master of science degrees in physical education from the University of West Florida and will receive her doctorate degree in sport management this summer from the United States Sports Academy.

Jennings will begin her duties on Monday, August 20. She will primarily be responsible for coaching the infielders, recruiting and administrative duties. She replaces Brandi Landry wo resigned to pursue a career in nursing.

"No other coach I have coached against has impressed me as much as Mary Ann. We are extremely fortunate to have a coach of her caliber join our staff. Her record speaks for itself," Moore said.
