Women's Tennis' Kovac, Parekh Named All-American

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Baylor women's tennis' Jahnavi Parekh and Katja Kovac earned all-America status Wednesday as the pair won their seventh straight match, advancing the duo to the NCAA quarterfinals.
Kovac and Parekh, ranked 21st in the nation, defeated 32nd-ranked Michelle Gough and Sophie Regnier of Arizona 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 on Wednesday in the NCAA Doubles Championships round of 16.
"The first set was about as perfect a doubles set as I've ever seen," Baylor head coach Dave Luedtke said, "In the second set, Arizona played well and took a break to win the set,but Katja and Janu [Parekh] came right back in the third set and played as well as they did in the first. They were almost flawless today."
By advancing to the quarterfinals, the pair of Bears earned all-America honors, the first in Baylor women's tennis doubles history. Parekh, a senior, became the first two-time all-American in program history, she made her way to the NCAA singles round of 16 in 2000, when she received the first all-America honor in Baylor women's tennis history. The all-America selection was Kovac's first in her three seasons at Baylor.
In the quarterfinals Thursday, Kovac and Parekh will face the winner of Wednesday afternoon's match between sixth-ranked Simone Jardim and Kim Niggemeyer of Fresno State and No. 20 Lauren Rookledge and Brooke Skeen of Kentucky.
