Scrivano adds Pretoria, South Africa, native with two years of collegiate experience
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's tennis head coach Joey Scrivano announced the addition of Isabella Basson, a transfer from the University of Tulsa, to the program on Thursday afternoon.
"We're excited to welcome Isabella Basson," said Scrivano. "She brings valuable experience competing at a high level, along with a highly competitive mindset, a strong motivation to help the team succeed and the kind of character we value in our program. Isabella is motivated to continue developing her game, and we're excited to help her take the next step."
Basson brings career records of 17-17 in singles and 23-25 in doubles to Waco, most recently playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles courts and No. 1 and No. 3 doubles courts during the 2025-26 season for the Golden Hurricane.
Limited to the Hurricane Invitational and the ITA Central Regional Championship during the fall of 2025, Basson finished her sophomore year with an 8-8 dual-match singles record and a 10-9 dual-match doubles record, helping Tulsa advance to the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship before finishing 15-12.
As a freshman, Basson secured her first collegiate victories with a singles win at the ITA Central Regional Championship before adding a doubles victory at Denver's Colorado Cup. She made a pair of dual-match appearances in singles, including a win over Stephen F. Austin in non-conference play, but primarily competed in doubles, appearing in 25 matches at the No. 3 court and going 11-8 while winning each of her first six matches of the spring.
In juniors play, the Pretoria, South Africa, native won one singles title at the 2022 J5 Bulawayo. She also advanced to at least the semifinals in a separate J5 Bulawayo singles draw that same year, as well as the J5 Bulawayo doubles twice in 2022 and the 2023 J60 Lleida singles.
Baylor women's tennis finished the season ranked 34th in the ITA Year-Ending team rankings, in a year highlighted by the program's 27th NCAA Tournament appearance and 19th advancement to the second round, with four All-Big 12 selections, three ranked victories and two qualifiers to the fall's NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
