Dong collects second-straight ITA Regional honor
TEMPE, Ariz. – Baylor women's tennis player Na Dong was named the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award recipient for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Texas Region, the ITA announced Wednesday morning.
The award is the eighth in program history and the first since Ema Burgic earned the honor in 2015.
The ITA Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recognizes outstanding student-athletes in all five divisions, NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and JUCO, at the regional and national levels. The award, which dates to 1982, honors men's and women's student-athletes who demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship and leadership along with scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.
Dong, in her second season in the green and gold, compiled 22 singles wins, including a 10-match streak through February and March. She added 24 doubles wins and was a staple for the Bears at the No. 2 and No. 3 courts, claiming 10 wins in conference play. She earned All-Big 12 First Team honors in singles and doubles and was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
