Box Score
Longhorn starter Gerrit Simpson shut down Baylor over the last six innings of the game as the Bears fell to the Texas Longhorns 5-1 Friday night at Disch-Faulk Field in Austin.
Baylor (28-15, 12-7) jumped on the board first with a run in the second when David Murphy's single scored Mike Huggins. Bears' starter Justin Taylor (5-2) got off to a good start, but the Longhorns (30-16, 16-6) were able to string a series of hits together in the fourth, scoring twice.
The Bears, on the other hand, were unable to spark a rally and even the score. Texas' Simpson (5-2) struck out 10 and allowed only nine hits while pitching a complete game.
Texas busted the game open with three runs in the sixth inning. The lower third of the Longhorn lineup connected for three straight hits, and the Bears never recovered.
For Baylor, the loss is the fourth consecutive in Big 12 conference play.
The series will continue Saturday in Waco at Baylor Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
