HOUSTON - Mark Saccomanno smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth and the Baylor Baseball team raced to a 12-4 victory over TCU Saturday afternoon at the Astros College Classic.

With the win, the Bears improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Horned Frogs fall to 2-2. Sophomore right-hander Steven White (1-0) earned his first win of the year, scattering three hits over five innings of work. TCU's David Tombrella (0-1) got the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits in four innings.

Baylor jumped on the board in the second inning when Kelly Shoppach singled to left field. Ron Zboril then reached base on an error by the first baseman to set up an RBI single to left by freshman David Murphy. Saccomanno grounded out to the shortstop to score Zboril.

In the third, it was more of the same for the Bears. Mike Huggins singled and Matt Williams was hit by the pitcher to put runners at first and second. Shoppach then smacked a double to left center to bring in Huggins. With just one out, Zboril grounded out to first base to drive in two runs and put the Bears up 5-0.

Baylor scored a run in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and added four in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double by pinch-hitter Nolan Leinweber. TCU countered with three runs in the seventh inning, but was never able to catch Baylor.

The Bears return to action Tuesday night when they host UT-Arlington. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Baylor Ballpark.
