Women's Golf Places Fourth At Midwest Classic

The Baylor women's golf team shot a final round 301 to finish fourth at the 2001 Midwest Classic at the Hyatt Bear Creek Golf Course in Dallas.

The Bears, ranked 32nd nationally by Golfstat, were led by sophomore Melanie Hagewood, who shot a 1-under-par 71 (75-79-71=225) in the final round to finish tied for fifth.

Baylor (308-317-301=926) shot a final-round 301 to finish in fourth place. Oklahoma State (295-308-303=906) won the tournament, followed by Ohio State (302-309-303=914), Oklahoma (299-309-316=924), Baylor, and Missouri (306-309-312=927).

Rounding out the individual scoring for the Bears were sophomore Hanna Svenningsson (76-77-80=233) who finished tied for 20th, junior Nicole Johnson (80-80-75=235) finished tied for 27th, freshman Michaelyn Morgan (83-81-75=239) finished tied for 43rd, and junior Tara Bateman (77-82-86=245) finished in 72nd place.

The Bears have finished in the top 10 of all six tournaments during the 2000-2001 season, including a victory at the Michigan Fall Invitational in September.

The Baylor women's golf team will continue play on March 5-6 when they play in the GTE "Mo" Morial Invitational hosted by Texas A&M.
