Box Score

WACO, Texas - Josh Scott tossed a complete game two-hitter to lead the Baylor baseball team to a 4-0 shutout of Nicholls State Saturday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.

With the win, the Bears improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Colonels drop to 5-4. Scott (1-1) picked up his first win of the season, while NSU lefty Ronald Gilchrist (1-1) gave up four runs on eight hits in eight innings for the loss.

After a scoreless first inning, Baylor jumped on the board with two runs in the second. Mike Huggins reached base on a lead-off walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Hitting second, Matt Williams singled to centerfield to bring Huggins across. After Jared Clements singled to centerfield, David Murphy smacked a double to score Williams and put the Bears up, 2-0.

Baylor added a run in the third inning and a run in the fifth. Nicholls State couldn't swing the bats against Scott and managed just two hits.

Senior Trevor Mote extended his hitting streak to nine games with a single in the third inning. His streak now equals the longest streak that a Baylor player put together last season.

The Bears will complete the series with Nicholls State with a doubleheader Sunday. First pitch is set for Noon at Baylor Ballpark.
