BU Women's Golf Leads After Two Rounds at Islander

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The women's golf team is currently in the lead after the first two rounds at the 2001 Islander Fall Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Bears shot 612 (300,312), which puts them 16 shots ahead of the current second place holder, North Texas.

The Bears, ranked 37th nationally by Golfstat, are led by senior Nicole Johnson who posted scores of 71 and 76 (147) to put her in first place.

Rounding out the individual scoring for the Bears, senior Tara Bateman is tied for second place after shooting 75,77 (152), junior Melanie Hagewood entered as an individual and holds fourth place (81,73=154), sophomore Michaelyn Morgan is tied for fifth place after shooting 76, 80 (156), sophomore Kelli McKandless is tied for eighth place after posting 158 (79,79) and junior Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson is tied for 25th place after shooting 78,87 (165).

North Texas is 16 strokes back in second place, host Texas A&M Corpus Christi is in third, Notre Dame is in fourth and McLennan Community College is in fifth, 47 strokes back from the lead.

The final round of the 2001 Islander Fall Classic is tomorrow beginning at 7:30 a.m.

This tournament will conclude the fall 2001 season for the Bears, they will resume play in 2002 at the Central District Invitational hosted by Northwestern and Michigan State.
