BU Women's Golf Remains in Second After Second Round Bear Golfers shoot a second round 292, Nicole Johnson still leads the Bears.

Las Cruces, N.M. - Baylor's women's golf team is steady in second place after Tuesday's second round of play at New Mexico State's Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate. The tournament is being played at the New Mexico State Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.

The Bears, ranked 55th nationally by Golfstat, are still led by senior Nicole Johnson who is currently tied for second place individually after shooting 69-73 (142).

The Bears set a Baylor record in the low competitive round category after shooting 291 Monday. The previous record stood at 295, which was set last spring at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic. The Bears shot 292, again placing them in the record book.

Rounding out the individual scoring for the Bears are senior Tara Bateman who is tied at sixth (73-73=146), junior Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson is tied at 18th (77-73=150), junior Melanie Hagewood is tied for 21st (78-73=151) and sophomore transfer Kelli McKandless is tied at 36 after posting 72-82=154. Sophomore Michaelyn Morgan entered as an individual and is also tied at 36 (78-76=154).

Arizona State currently holds first place (579) followed by Baylor (583), New Mexico State (588), Oklahoma (590) and UCLA (598).

The Bears are coming off a 12th place finish at the Big 12 Invitational last week and will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii Oct. 30-31 for the Rainbow Wahine Fall Golf Classic.
