Texas tops Baylor, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas (24-21-1, 9-3 Big 12) put up six runs in the final two innings to down the Bears (22-26, 2-8 Big 12), 6-1, Wednesday night at Red and Charlene McCombs Field in Austin.
BU got on the board first with a run in the top of the third inning when Stacey Hundley walked with one out, went to second on Summer Rohde's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Naomi Fitzgerald's single to center. However, that would be all the scoring the team could manage off of Charla Moore.
After limiting the Longhorns to only one hit through the first four inning, Baylor freshman hurler Joni Miller yielded five runs on four hits. With the bases loaded and two outs, Miller hit Lindsay Gardner to drive in the first run and walked Audrey Hendricks to force in the second. Keely Franks followed with a two-run single and Jodi Reeves added a run-scoring single to cap the five-run inning.
UT put one more run on the board in the sixth when pinch hitter Courtney Ryan doubled home Cathie Johnson.
Miller (10-9) took the loss going five innings and giving up five runs, all earned, five hits, with one walk and two strikeouts. Senior Carrie Arn pitched the sixth inning allowing one run on three hits.
Moore (17-11) got the win for Texas going the distance giving up one run on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
UT's eight hits came from eight different players and Franks was the only player with more than one RBI. Baylor's offense output came from Fitzgerald who had two of BU's three hits with an RBI. Kristen Lancaster had the team's other hit, a leadoff single to start the second inning.
