Baylor Triumphs Over Purdue, 8-6

ARLINGTON, Texas - Holly Fields' second two-run home run of the day provided the winning runs as Baylor came from behind and defeated Purdue 8-6 in eight innings.
Baylor found themselves down early in the first when Purdue leadoff hitter Katie Crabtree homered to center. Heide Foster then singled with one out, her pinch runner Briana Hensley stole second, and Hensley came home on a single to left by Chrissy Davie for a 2-0 lead.
BU took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second with some timely hitting. With two outs and none on, Stacey Hundley singled right in front of the plate, Heather Williams singled up the middle, and Jennifer Polk drove home Hundley with a single to right. Fitzgerald followed with a two-RBI double into the left centerfield gap brining home Williams and Chamblee, who pinch ran for Polk.
The team got one more run in the third when Caudle led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a double by VandeBurgt.
The Boilermakers got one back in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Davie and took the lead 5-4 in the fourth when Jesse Jones led off by reaching on an error and scored on a fielder's choice by Lynne Tortorelli. Angi Roembke singled and scored when Sahara Nixon blooped a single to center field.
The Bears knotted the score at 5-5 in the top of the sixth inning when VandeBurgt led off with a double and eventually came home on a sacrifice fly. Hundley was stranded at third base after reaching with one out.
In the extra frame, the game belonged to Baylor as Ryan Stukel came home on a Summer Rohde single and Rohde scored when Fields hit her second two-run home run of the day. Purdue managed to get one run back in the bottom of the eighth when Davie came home on a wild pitch, but the Boilermakers stranded runners on second and third when Tortorelli struck out to end the game.
Joni Miller (3-1) picked up another win at the tournament pitching 42/3 innings of relief giving up one run on four hits. Nicole Crouse took the loss in relief for Purdue (1-4-0). This eliminated Purdue from the tournament.
