Last Time Out
On Friday, the Bears came out firing to beat Colorado in Boulder, 3-1. Senior Molly Cameron knocked in her team-leading ninth goal of the year for Baylor's first score. Freshman Cookie Day provided goal number two with her first collegiate score. Sophomore Whitney Barrett scored early in the second half to cap off the Baylor offensive attack. The win was Baylor's first Friday win of the season.

Sunday, the Bears won their third-straight game by beating Texas Tech in Lubbock, 3-2. Barrett scored in her third straight game for Baylor's first tally, followed by freshman Ryan Lee's first collegiate goal early in the second half. Texas Tech responded with two goals to tie the game, but 16 seconds after the second score, freshman Emily Fukuchi notched her fifth goal of the year to win the game for the Bears. The 16-second difference tied for the sixth fastest consecutive goals by opposing teams in NCAA Division I history.

Head Coach Nick Cowell
In 2000, head soccer coach Nick Cowell enters his second year leading the Baylor program after an eight-year stint as head coach at Trinity University in San Antonio. During that time, Cowell led his team to seven straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference titles, including 49-straight conference game victories and six trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

At Trinity, Cowell's success resulted in him being named the SCAC Coach of the Year following the 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1998 seasons. In 1992, he garnered Regional Coach of the Year honors. Prior to his work at Trinity, Cowell was at The College of Wooster where he had a 22-11-4 record in two seasons. He led the Lady Scots to the North Coast Athletic Conference title in 1990. Following that season he was named the NCAC and Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association Coach of the Year.

Last season, in his first year with the Bears, he piloted Baylor to a 14-7-1 record overall. The Bears finished fourth in the Big 12 with a 6-3-1 record and made their second straight NCAA appearance, losing in the first round to SMU.

Molly, Molly and More Molly
Senior forward Molly Cameron has not only been Baylor's leading scorer this season, she was Baylor's only scorer through the first six games of the year. Cameron scored once in each of the first five games for a total of five goals, while no other Bear scored until game seven against Colorado College when Gina Castellano came through.

To date, Cameron has scored nine of Baylor's 23 goals, those nine goals tie her for third in the Big 12. She is tied for second in goals per game (0.64), and her 19 points rank her 10th in the conference in points, eighth in points per game.

Dawn Defense
Senior goalkeeper Dawn Greathouse has compiled a goals against average of 1.35, including three solo shutouts and one combined shutout. Greathouse leads all Big 12 goalkeepers in total saves (105) and in saves per game (7.00). She is tied for fourth in shutouts with four.

Greathouse earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors (10/9) for her work against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. For the weekend, she totaled 210 minutes, allowing just one goal. Her double-overtime blanking of Oklahoma was her fourth shutout of the season.

Her 13 saves against Colorado (10/13/00) tied her own school record for saves in a game, set last season against Nebraska (8/29/99).

Barrett Barrage
Sophomore midfielder Whitney Barrett recorded her first collegiate goal Oct. 8 at Oklahoma State. That proved to be only the beginning, as she followed that game with scores at Colorado (10/13) and at Texas Tech (10/15) to give her a three-game scoring streak, tying for the fifth-longest streak in school history.

Barrett's three goals tie her for seventh in the Big 12 in goals scored in conference play, she is tied for 11th in points (Big 12 play only) with seven.

Castellano Comes Through in the Clutch
Senior midfielder Gina Castellano has scored two goals this season, but both have been game winners for the Bears. Her first gave Baylor a 2-1 lead against Colorado College in a game Baylor went on to win 3-1.

Most recently, Castellano's goal in the 86th minute against Texas A&M gave the Bears a 2-1 win over the ninth-ranked Aggies in Waco (10/1). The win was Baylor's first of the year against a ranked opponent.

For her clutch performance, Castellano was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week (Sept. 25-Oct. 1.)

Fukuchi Firepower
Forward Emily Fukuchi became the first Baylor freshman this year to score with her goal against Iowa State (9/24). Her five goals are second-best on the team this season and tie her for third-best in the Big 12 in conference play. For Big 12 games only, she is sixth in the conference in scoring with 10 points.

Fukuchi scored twice at Oklahoma State (10/8), including her first collegiate game-winning goal, to lead the Bears past the Cowboys, 3-1. Her efforts earned her the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award (10/9).

The freshman also contributed the game-winning goal at Texas Tech (10/15). Fukuchi scored just 16 seconds after Texas Tech had tied the game. The 16-second difference ties for the sixth-fastest consecutive goals by opposing teams in NCAA Division I history.

Freshman Frenzy
The Baylor soccer team has 15 true freshmen on the roster, and a large number of those are seeing significant playing time.

Defender Melissa Humke has started all 15 games for theBears this season. Midfielder Candace Reilly is third on the team in shots and started every game this season until going down with an injury.

Midfielders Cookie Day and Erin Freeman have eight and seven starts, respectively. Forward Emily Fukuchi has started six times, Ryan Lee has started three games, and Stephanie Dempsey has started once for Baylor. Freeman, Day and Fukuchi join Humke among the freshmen who have played in every game this season for Baylor.

Bears Among Big 12 Leaders
In addition to the performances of Molly Cameron, Dawn Greathouse, Whitney Barrett and Emily Fukuchi, several other Bears also rank among the conference leaders. For the season, Baylor has one of the top defenses in the Big 12, the Bears are third in the conference in goals allowed and goals allowed per game, second in saves, and rank fifth in shutouts.

Steady Scoring

Sophomore Whitney Barrett enters the weekend having score d in each of the last three games. The three goals are her first three collegiate scores.

Rewriting the Record Books
Senior forward Molly Cameron and senior goalkeeper Dawn Greathouse continue to stamp their names all over the Baylor record book.

Cameron ranks second on the Baylor career lists in points and goals, and third in assists. She has been a part of the team since Baylor added a varsity soccer program, Cameron played for Baylor the first three years, missed year four due to injury, and is the team's leading scorer this season in year five.

Greathouse joined the Bears for their second varsity season and has been the team's starting goalie since she set foot on campus. Greathouse holds every Baylor career mark for goalkeepers and the majority of the single season and single game records, as well.
