XC Back in Action at the Southern Showcase

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After back-to-back trips to College Station, the Baylor men's and women's cross country teams will go out of state for the first time, competing in the Southern Showcase on Friday at John Hunt Cross Country Park.

Making her season debut, two-time NCAA Championship qualifier Ruth Kimeli will run in the women's 6K Invitational at 8:10 a.m., with a strong field that includes Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State.

"We're excited to race at the Sothern Showcase this weekend," Baylor coach David Barnett said. "There are a lot of quality teams and some fresh faces that we don't get to compete against very often. On the women's side, we're getting closer to having our entire top five in the lineup, and I'm excited to have Ruth Kimeli make her season debut."

Kimeli will be joined by Ella Perry, Mackenize Browne, Rachel Haws, Eva Jacobsen and Rickeisha Simms. Perry had a top-10 finish at the Aggie Opener, leading the Bears to a third-place finish.

The men's 8K Invitational will kick off the meet with a 7:30 a.m. start. Junior Jack Sterrett and seniors Nolan Keenan and Straton Miller, who were top-15 finishers at the Aggie Opener, will return this week after sitting out last week's Texas A&M Invitational.

"For the men, we are bringing a few of our upperclassmen, and they're ready to compete in their first 8K races," Barnett said.

Eastern Kentucky transfer Khadija Ennasri has been cleared to practice and should make her Baylor debut in two weeks at the Nike XC Town Twilight in Terre Haute, Ind.
