BU is one of only two schools in the nation to produce a first round draft pick in six consecutive NBA Drafts (2021–2026)
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Baylor guard Cameron Carr was selected with the No. 24 overall pick by the New York Knicks in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft on Tuesday night. Carr is expected to be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers based on reports.
With the 24th selection, Carr extends Baylor's streak with sixth consecutive drafts producing a first round pick. Baylor and Duke are the only programs that have had a player selected in the first round in every NBA Draft from 2021 through 2026.
Carr, a 6-foot-5 guard from Eden Prairie, Minn., capped a standout lone season in Waco by leading the Bears in scoring at 18.9 points per game in 2025-26, while adding 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and a team-best 1.3 blocks per game. He shot 49.4 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from 3-point range. His 642 points set a Baylor single-season scoring record for a sophomore and rank fifth in program history for a single season, earning him All-Big 12 Third Team honors for the 2025-26 campaign.
Carr's selection adds to a remarkable run for the Baylor program on draft night. The Bears have produced 16 NBA Draft picks during the Scott Drew era and now own 29 all-time draft picks, including 13 first-round selections, 10 of which have come since 2010. Baylor's 15 picks over the last 14 drafts are the most by any program in the state of Texas and rank third in the Big 12 Conference since 2012. Additionally, Carr becomes BU's seventh first round pick since 2021.
Carr becomes the first Baylor player drafted by New York since Don Heathington in 1950. Coming off the 2026 NBA Championship, former Bear Jeremy Sochan joined the Knicks late into the 2026 season, playing in eight games.
