Lucero wins 400m hurdles, Brannon clears first 17-foot vault
ALUMNI MUSTER FINAL RESULTS
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Baylor pole vaulter Molly Haywood kept her near-unblemished record intact and set the meet and facility records on Saturday at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
After clearing the 14-6 bar on her final attempt, Haywood was the only one of the 23 competitors to go over 14-10 ¾, which tied Arkansas' Nastassja Campbell's facility record and broke the meet record of 14-9 ½ set by teammate Tenly Kuhn a year ago.
Kuhn finished third at 14-6, with senior teammate Alencia Lentz fifth at 14-1 ¼, continuing a trend that has Baylor's vault crew ranked as the second-best in the event nationally.
On the men's side, junior Parker Brannon surpassed his previous career best by more than four inches and finished third in the pole vault at 17-3.
"Super happy for Parker that he finally got a 17-foot jump," Baylor coach Michael Ford said. "He's been working hard in practice, and he had some good attempts at 17-7.That definitely puts him on the region list, and he could potentially score at conference. Molly had had another good meet. She went for it at 15-2 and had some good attempts. But overall, she got another win and set the meet and facility records."
Serafima Lucero picked up another win in the 400-meter hurdles, running a time of 57.21, just six hundredths of a second off the meet record.
Baylor also got top-three performances from Ruth Kimeli in the 1,500 meters, second place with a career PR of 4:21.89; Kingston Williams in the long jump (3rd, 23-10 ¼); Demario Prince, runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles, 13.57; Tiriah Kelley, 3rd in the 100 meters, 11.27; Eva Jacobsen, 2nd in the 3,000=meter steeplechase with a PR time of 10:43.42; and Ella Perry, 3rd in the 5,000 meters on Friday night, 17:22.4.
Freshman sprinters Jada Edwards and Alyssa Jones added career PRs in the 400 meters at 53.55 and 53.92.
Two former Baylor All-Americans also had event wins, with current assistant coach Aaliyah Miller winning the women's 800 meters with a season-best and meet-record time of 2:03.10 and Trayvon Bromell taking the men's 100 meters in 10.06.
After a week off, Baylor will compete in the Big 12 Championships May 14-16 in Tucson, Ariz.
