Bears take 36-hole lead going into the final round at Texas A&M
THE 'MO' DAY 2 RESULTS
BRYAN, Texas – Playing in the team lineup for the first time in over two months, Baylor junior transfer Charlotte Brook tied her season best and shot the tournament's low round of the day at 4-under 68 on Tuesday to help the Bears grab the 36-hole lead at Texas A&M's "Mo" Morial.
On the par-72, 6,450-yard layout at Traditions Club, Brook shot 34 on both nines, recording birdies at Nos. 6, 7, 12, 13 and 18 and taking her only bogey of the day at the par-5 10th. The Division II transfer from Lynn University was one of just three players who broke par, moving into a tie for second in the medalist hunt at 1-over 145 and just one back of Missouri's Jade Zamora.
"I'm especially proud of Charlotte Brook, who has been playing some really good golf as of late," Baylor coach Jay Goble said. "But she walked around all day today with confidence and poise, and it's amazing to see her play as well as she did today."
Baylor was the only team to end up in red numbers for the day, shooting 2-under 286 after an opening round of 18-over 306, and has a one-shot lead on the host Aggies at 16-over 592. Missouri is third at 22-over 598, followed by Tulsa (27-over, 603) and Kansas (33-over, 609).
"Today was a very good day," Goble said. "To come out and play like this on a really difficult golf course shows that our team can compete with any team in the country on any golf course in the country. We are going to get a little practice in and go get some rest and get ready for a big day tomorrow."
Senior Bridget Boczar, who had an eagle in a 3-over 75 on Monday, came back with an even-par 72 and moved up to a tie for fifth at 3-over 147. Silje Ohma and Yurang Li had matching rounds of 1-over 73, while Malena Castro fell back to a tie for 15th at 6-over 150 after a rough opening nine that included two bogeys and a pair of double bogeys.
Playing as an individual, senior Mallory Matthews was undone by the back nine and shot her second round in the 80s at 9-under 81.
Baylor will be paired with A&M and Missouri for Wednesday's third and final round, with live scoring available at The "Mo" Morial.
