
BYU Claims Narrow Victory over WT, 4-3

WACO, Texas – No. 38 Baylor (11-7) fell to No. 32 BYU (18-4) in a tightly contested 4-3 match on Thursday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Baylor secured singles victories on courts 2, 5, and 6 but couldn't clinch the doubles point, winning only at the No. 2 position. BYU wrapped up the match by taking the doubles point and notching singles wins on courts 1, 3, and 4.
THE RUNDOWN
Baylor dropped the doubles point to BYU after a series of close matches. The No. 2 doubles pair of Na Dong and Alian Zack pulled off a 6-4 win over BYU's Sage Bergeson and YuYun Chen, setting an early competitive tone.
However, BYU struck back with victories at No. 1 doubles, where the No. 59-ranked duo of Kendall Kovick and Gracie Levelston bested Zuzanna Kubacha and Gabrielle Villegas 6-4, and at No. 3 doubles, with Bella Lewis and Sue Yan Tan edging Luna Ivkovic and Neda Rahimkhani 7-5.
In singles play, Baylor worked to overcome the deficit, starting strong with Mu-Jie Tzeng's straight-sets victory over Bergeson at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-0, leveling the score at 1-1. BYU reclaimed the lead with Sue Yan Tan's 6-4, 6-1 win over Kennedy Gibbs at No. 3 singles. Baylor's Kubacha, ranked No. 120, then defeated Kovick 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, tying the score at 2-2.
Ivkovic added another point for Baylor with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Karina Mohamed at No. 6 singles, bringing Baylor to within one point of victory. Yet, BYU's YuYun Chen captured a crucial win at No. 4 singles, overcoming Zack 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, to even the dual score again at 3-3.
The decisive match at No. 1 singles saw BYU's Levelston defeat Baylor's No. 48-ranked Dong in a tense three-set battle, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(0).
