MBB Advances to CBC Semifinals with Minnesota Win, 67-48 Three Bears with 15-plus points surge BU to College Basketball Crown semifinals
LAS VEGAS – Baylor men's basketball came to play in Las Vegas, dominating Minnesota 67-48 in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Crown on Wednesday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Baylor (17-16, 6-12 Big 12) ended the night shooting 47% from the field, including a 58% clip during the second half, to take down Minnesota (15-18, 8-12 Big Ten). Three Bears led the charge with 15-plus points: Tounde Yessoufou with 19 points, Obi Agbim with 17 points and Cameron Carr with 15 points.
Agbim found his stride from beyond the arc, going 5-for-8 from deep. The fifth-year senior out-shot the entirety of the Minnesota roster from three, with the Golden Gophers going only 3-for-23.
Baylor held Minnesota to 39% from the field and under 50 points, the first time since Jan. 7, 2025, against Cincinnati that Baylor has held a team to fewer than 50 points.
THE RUNDOWN
Back-to-back deep balls from Agbim got the Bears rolling in Las Vegas, kickstarting their 14th consecutive postseason appearance. The Baylor offense picked up right from the tipoff, and an electric alley-oop dunk to Carr connected by Agbim gave Baylor a 12-9 lead at the first media timeout.
The Golden Gophers responded with a 7-0 run, making five consecutive baskets from the field and taking a 18-16 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the half. But just as Minnesota had the advantage, the Baylor defense held the Golden Gophers to a six-and-a-half-minute scoring drought. Meanwhile, the Bears went on an 11-1 run, taking an eight-point lead, 27-19.
Both teams fell into an offensive lull to finish the first half, with only three made field goals across 23 attempts on both sides of the floor. However, Baylor headed into the locker room with the edge, 31-26.
Yessoufou got Baylor going to open the second half with an under-the-basket layup. A big block by Caden Powell led to Yessoufou earning his 31st game of the season in double figures. Another big basket by the freshman phenom forced a Minnesota timeout with Baylor taking an 11-point lead, 37-26.
The Bears kept their foot on the gas, allowing Minnesota only one point in the second half until the 14-minute mark. Agbim sank his fifth 3-pointer of the night and Baylor went up big, 50-32.
But the Golden Gophers didn't give up easily, outscoring the Bears 10-2 and chipping away at the lead to 54-42 at the under-eight media timeout. Baylor kept the offense going with three Bears earning 15-plus points.
Head coach Scott Drew emptied the bench in the final two minutes, and the Bears advanced with a 67-48 win over Minnesota.
