Bears head home with four perfect tens, only dropping one heat in two road meets
NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The top-ranked Baylor acrobatics & tumbling team delivered an exciting victory over No. 4 Iona, 281.030-266.045, on Monday afternoon to sweep their road swing at Hynes Athletic Center
The Bears (7-0) topped the Gaels (2-1) by 14.985 points. Entering the meet, Baylor held a 4.72 point advantage in start value. The win marked the 57th consecutive win for the Bears and featured two perfect tens.
To start off the meet in Compulsory, BU and Iona executed the necessary skills, each heat with a start value of 10. In the Acro heat, Baylor scored a 9.70/10 , and Iona followed with a 9.50/10. In the Pyramid heat, the Bears scored a 9.80/10, outscoring the Gaels 9.70/10. Baylor won the Toss heat with a 9.85/10, with Iona scoring a 9.65/10. In the Tumbling heat, BU scored an 8.95/10, and the Gaels scored an 8.40/10. Through the first event, the score was 38.30 to Iona's 37.25, with the Bears up by 1.05 points after sweeping in Compulsory.
To start the optional portion of the meet in Acro, Iona followed a 9.95/10 performance from Baylor with a 9.70/10. In the synchronized 6 Element heat, the Gaels scored 9.45/10 after Baylor, with four different pairs of tops and bases, scored 9.80/10. In the third heat, Iona competed a 9.65/10 score, and Makayla Vasquez and Mo Arthur scored a 9.80/10. For the Acro event, BU scored 29.55 to Iona's 28.80, bringing their total to 67.85 to 66.05 through two events, with Baylor leading by 1.80 points.
In the Pyramid event, the Bears started it off with a 9.95/10 score in the Inversion heat, which the Gaels followed up with a 9.90/10. Topping the Synchronized heat after the Iona's 9.75/10 were Payton Washington and Bott, based by McDonald and Meredith Wells, respectively, who scored a 9.90/10. In the Open heat, Iona scored a 9.85/10 while Baylor competed a perfect ten with Sofia Criado atop Leavy McDonald. For the Pyramid event, Baylor scored a 97.70, while the Gaels scored 95.50.
To kick off the second half with the Toss event, it was Tannehill topping the 450 Salto heat, finishing with a score of 9.60/9.90 after Iona scored a 9.30/10. In the Synchronized heat, the Gaels earned a 9.10/10, and for the Bears, Washington and Tannehill earned a 9.40/10. In the final heat, the Open heat, Iona scored a 9.30/10 before Baylor followed with an impressive 9.90/10 from Washington. At the end of the Toss event, Baylor totaled 28.90, while Iona had a 27.70. Through four events, BU had a score of 126.60 while Iona had a 123.25, and the Bears are up by 3.35 points.
Combined, Baylor scored 58.00 to finish the Tumbling event, while Iona scored 54.775. After five events, BU led 184.60 to 178.025, up by 6.575 points headed into the last event. In the Team event, Iona scored a 88.02/106.31 and Baylor followed with a 96.43/109.63. The meet was finalized, BU came out on top with a 281.030 score against Iona's 266.045; the Bears winning by 14.985 points.
