Jorgensen, McIlnay, Robelen and Rutledge earn MOP nod
FRESNO, Calif. – The 10th-ranked Baylor equestrian team earned a 12-4 victory over UT Martin on Friday afternoon at the Student Horse Center in Fresno, Calif.
The Bears (3-7, 2-3 Big 12) earned event wins in Fences, Flat and Reining to defeat the Skyhawks (4-8, 4-3 ECAC). BU swept the Most Outstanding Performer honors with senior Lauren Jorgensen (Fences), sophomore Britt McIlnay (Reining), Caroline Robelen (Flat) and Carley Rutledge (Horsemanship) all earning the nod.
THE RUNDOWN
Starting the day off in Fences, BU dominated, sweeping the event 4-0. MOP Jorgensen rode for an 85.5 to best the Skyhawks' 83. Freshman Morgan McCarthy earned her point with an 80.5 against a 68 from her opponent. Senior Lauren Reid upended UT Martin's 80 with an 82 and junior Sofia Moskowitz completed the sweep by besting her opponent 80.5-69.
After a short break, the two squads competed in Horsemanship, with the Skyhawks winning the event 3-1. Freshman Taylor Eller rode for a career high of 72.75 but wasn't able to best UT Martin's 73. MOP Rutledge earned the Bears' sole point riding for a 74.5 against UT Martin's 73.25.
Entering halftime, BU had a 5-3 lead going into Flat and Reining.
In Reining, senior Kalena Reynolds upended her opponents 68.5 with a 68.75 to win her point. MOP McIlnay rode for a 69.5 to topple the Skyhawks 67. Fifth-year senior Bella Hehr defeated her 68.25-67.25. The Bears won the event, 3-1.
Finishing in Flat, riding against a 70.5, MOP Robelen earned a 78.5 to earn a point. Jorgensen rode for a 78.5 to best UTM's 64.5. Reid posted a 79.5 against the Skyhawks 70. McCarthy rode for a 72 to rout out UT Martin's 71.5. The Bears swept the event 4-0 and won the meet 12-4.
