Ten All-Big 12 performers competing in meet at Lowdon Track Complex
FORT WORTH, Texas – Six days after ending the indoor season with three All-America honors, Baylor track and field will open outdoors with the TCU Alumni Invitational that starts Friday at TCU's Lowdon Track and Field Complex.
While Baylor's All-American trio of Demario Prince, Tiriah Kelley and Molly Haywood will wait until next week's Clyde Hart Classic home meet to debut outdoors, the Bears will send 10 All-Big 12 performers to the meet, including pole vault silver medalist Tenly Kuhn.
"Honestly, we're just going there to knock some rust off for the ones who have had a long break after the Big 12 Indoor Championships," Baylor coach Michael Ford said. "A lot of them are only doing one event, and some of them are doing some odd events, just giving them an opportunity to do an event they wanted to do. And then next week at the Clyde Hart meet, we'll start focusing on getting some normal races in."
Freshman Kingston Williams, who missed the school record in the heptathlon by only 17 points, will compete in the high jump on Friday's opening day of the meet and come back the next day for the 110-meter hurdles and shot put.
A three-time all-conference pick who was second in the pole vault behind Haywood at the Big 12 Indoor, Tenly is joined by Katelyn Andrews, Raynah Cheng and Keidra Mills on the women's side, as well as Parker Brannon and Grant Vlaun.
Royaltee Brown and Hannah Lowe, who were 60-meter finalists indoors, will compete in the 100 and 200 meters, respectively, while long jump bronze medalist Janae De Gannes is also entered in the 100.
For the men, 200-meter finalists Laurenz Colbert and Bailey Hashmi are entered in the 100 meters, along with Arizona State transfer Malik Franklin. Aren Spencer, Abbas Ali and Tyler Honeyman, the other legs from the bronze medal-winning 4x400 relay, are entered in the 200.
The schedule for the meet begins with the men's discus at 9:30 a.m. Friday and the women's 5,000 meters on Saturday. Live results are available at TCU Alumni Invitational.
"The big focus is getting the rust off and keeping kids healthy for this first meet before we open at home," said Ford, who is in Poland for this week's World Indoor Championships.
Prince is representing Jamaica in the 60-meter hurdles at the World Championships and is joined by former Baylor All-American Demar Francis, who's in Jamaica's relay pool. Ford is also working with former Baylor All-American Trayvon Bromell (60 meters), former Oklahoma quarter-miler Demarius Smith and former world champion Dina Asher-Smith from Great Britain.
