Bears launch three home runs and score in six of eight offensive innings to extend home winning streak
The Bears (10-6) launched three home runs as part of their 15-hit output and scored in six of eight offensive innings to distance themselves from the Bearkats (8-8). On the mound, seven BU pitchers combined to fan 12 and allowed just one walk.
Five Baylor players tallied multi-hit games, including freshman outfielder Brady Janusek and redshirt senior first baseman Tyce Armstrong, who each cleared the batter's eye in center field with solo home runs. Redshirt freshman outfielder Hunter Snow added a pinch-hit solo shot to match BU's season-high of three home runs in a single game.
Redshirt freshman right-hander Cayden Baker got the win after throwing the first two innings of the ballgame and striking out a career-high three batters. Five other BU arms recorded scoreless outings and four of them added two strikeouts to help the Bears to a perfect 4-0 start to an eight-game homestand.
THE RUNDOWN
Though SHSU struck first with one run in the top of the first, Baylor answered back right away as Janusek left the yard in the home half to knot the scoreline at 1-1.
In the second, redshirt junior infielder Travis Sanders singled up the middle to chase in another run and BU would not relinquish the lead from there. The Bears pushed across three more in the third as Armstrong homered, redshirt freshman infielder Brytton Clements singled in another and junior infielder Robert De La Garza scored on a passed ball to make it 5-1.
Snow launched his third home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth, a solo shot in pinch-hit fashion that extended the lead to 6-1. In the top of the sixth, Sam Houston pulled within a few runs at 6-4 as it plated three on a trio of hits, but that's as close as the Bearkats would get as Baylor countered with three runs of its own in the home half to keep the lead at five runs, 9-4.
Back-to-back hustle doubles by senior outfielder Caleb Bergman and Janusek ignited a four-run frame in the bottom of the eighth, as Armstrong and Clements each picked up more RBI singles, moving the total to 13-4.
SHSU plated one on a two-out double in the top of the ninth, but that would be all as BU finished off the victory.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Mitch Thompson
On the offensive performance…
"I thought offensively we swung the bats well up and down the lineup. There's a lot of guys who got in the game, too, and we had multiple guys with multiple hits and shared the wealth all the way around. It was a really good day offensively, no doubt. It was a great all-around effort. I love the fact that we played defense, we didn't make an error. I love the fact that we threw seven different arms. We're increasing our depth. It was an all-around great day and we'll take it."
Junior INF Robert De La Garza
On making the most of his opportunities…
"Talking with the coaches, they all said to keep on working and stay ready for my opportunity. When it came, I kind of took advantage of it. I want to thank my teammates for always being there for me and pushing us, and the coaches too, helping us work in practice. Just give thanks to those guys."
Redshirt Freshman RHP Cayden Baker
On the pitching staff's performance tonight…
"I thought we threw the ball well. Very competitive and against a good lineup that can swing it. I thought we threw the ball well and competed in every aspect of the game."
