AZUSA, California – The top-ranked Baylor acrobatics & tumbling team delivered a commanding victory over No. 10 Azusa Pacific on Friday night at the Felix Events Center, posting a 283.375–260.500 win.
The Bears (2-0) topped the Cougars (0-1) by 22.875 points on the road. Entering the meet, Baylor already held a 15.15-point advantage in start value.
To start off the meet in Compulsory, BU and APU executed the necessary skills, each heat with a start value of 10. In the Acro heat, Baylor scored a 9.70 and Azusa Pacific followed with a 9.40. The Bears took the Pyramid heat, 9.80 to 9.70 before winning the Toss heat with a perfect 10. Azusa Pacific scoring a 9.80 in the same heat. In the Tumbling heat, BU scored an 9.20, the Cougars scoring 8.75. Through one event, the score was 38.70 to APU's 37.65, the Bears up by 1.05 points.
To start the optional portion of the meet in Acro, Baylor followed a 9.55/10 performance from APU with a 9.90/10. With Makayla Vasquez as the top and Mo Arthur as the base to earn the score. In the synchronized 6 Element heat, the Cougars scored a 9.30/9.90 before Baylor, with four different pairs of tops and bases, scored 9.70/10. In the third heat, once Azusa Pacific competed a 8.90/10 score, Washington and McDonald scored a 9.85/10. For the Acro event, BU scored 29.45 to APU's 27.75, now totaling 68.15 to 65.40 through two events and Baylor leading by 2.75 points.
In the Pyramid event, APU started it off with a 9.20/9.80 score in the Inversion heat, which the Bears followed up with a 9.95/10 score with Vasquez atop Arthur. Topping the Synchronized heat after the Cougars' 9.55/10 were Payton Washington and Bott, based by McDonald and Meredith Wells, respectively, which scored a 9.70/10. In the Open heat, APU scored a 9.85/10 while Vasquez topped Baylee Garnto, McDonald and Arthur and debuted a new skill to the NCATA, the 3 high slide to split pyramid, scoring a 9.90/10. For the Pyramid event, Baylor scored a 29.65 while the Cougars scored 28.60.
At the half, BU was up 97.80 to 94.00, leading by 3.8 points.
To kick off the second half with the Toss event, it was Tannehill topping the 450 Salto heat, finishing with a score of 9.60/9.90 after Azusa Pacific scored a 9.20/9.50. In the Synchronized heat, the Cougars earned a 8.95/9.40, and for the Bears, Washington and Tannehill earned a 9.65/9.90. In the final heat, the Open heat, APU scored a 9.20/9.40 before Baylor followed with a 9.90/10 from Washington. At the end of the Toss event, Baylor totaled 29.15 while Azusa Pacific had a 27.35. Through four events, BU had a score of 126.95 while APU had a 121.35, the Bears up by 5.6 points.
In the Tumbling event, APU's duo scored a 9.25/9.55 while Emily Bott and Lawrence Owens competed for a score of 9.35/10. In the Trio, the Cougars put a score of 8.05/8.75 on the mat, followed by BU's 9.30/10 from Alyiah Thomas, Gigi Rendino, and Kailey Yantis-Blank. In the Quad pass were Washington, Criado, Sarah Kerr and Gabby Kaminski, scoring a 9.40/10 for their pass, after APU put out a 7.15/8 score. For the Aerial pass it was Bott, who scored a 9.85/10 after the Cougars earned a 9.425/9.55 score. Competing in the 6 Element heat was Rendino, earning a 9.675/10 after Azusa Pacific's 9.45/9.55. Washington earned a 9.75 for the Open heat, with the Cougars' 9.325/9.25. Combined, Baylor had a score of 57.325 to finish the Tumbling event while APU had a score of 52.650. After five events, BU led 184.275 to 174.000, up by 10.275 points headed into the last event.
In Team event, APU scored a 86.50/101.05 and Baylor followed with a 99.10/109.75.
The meet finalized, BU came out on top with a 283.375 score against Azusa Pacific's 260.500; the Bears winning by 22.875 points and went undefeated in every heat.

In the Open Pyramid, Baylor debuted a new skill to the NCATA, the 3 high slide to split pyramid. Makayla Vasquez topped Baylee Garnto, Leavy McDonald and Mo Arthur and ended with McDonald and Arthur holding hands while both sliding into a split with Garnto serving as a mid-level base and Vasquez on top.
