Junior QB collects recognitions from Davey O’Brien Award, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, Manning Award
WACO, Texas – Baylor football junior quarterback DJ Lagway has earned a trio of national honors following his standout performance in Week 5 against Arizona State, as announced this week by various awards.
Lagway was named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week in addition to collecting a pair of national quarterback honors from the Davey O'Brien Award and Manning Award.
In just his third start for the Bears, Lagway put together a career performance in the dominating 55-19 win at ASU, going 25-for-40 through the air with 306 yards and a career-high four passing touchdowns. He also added an 11-yard TD run for his second career rushing score. Lagway became the 11th different Bear in program history to score five or more touchdowns in a single game.
Additionally, Lagway's 300+-yard passing effort was the fourth of his career and second of the season. He found 10 different receivers and spread the ball to four different TD scorers, spearheading a Baylor offense that put up 564 yards of total offense, its most in a single game since Sept. 27, 2025, at Oklahoma State (612). BU's 55 points are the most scored by any Big 12 team in a conference game so far in 2026.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. Additionally, the recipient must either have played football at and graduated from a Texas high school and/or be currently playing at a Texas-based Division I four-year university. This is Lagway's first weekly honor from the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award of the 2026 season.
The Davey O'Brien Foundation committee elected to utilize its "Davey Double" for the 2026 season in Week 5, recognizing 16 quarterbacks instead of the traditional "Great 8." Lagway's accolade also officially includes him on the Davey O'Brien Midseason Watch List for the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award.
Lagway was also named one of eight Stars of the Week by the Manning Award, which was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 as the only quarterback award that includes candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
