FB's Lagway, Morris Earn Big 12 Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – Baylor football junior quarterback DJ Lagway and freshman running back Ryelan Morris have been named Big 12 Players of the Week for Week 5, as announced Monday by the conference office.

Lagway was named one of two Big 12 Offensive Players of the Week, while Morris was tabbed the league's Freshman of the Week after their performances in BU's dominating 55-19 win at Arizona State on Saturday.

In just his third start for the Bears, Lagway put together a career performance against ASU, going 25-for-40 through the air with 306 yards and a career-high four passing touchdowns. He also added an 11-yard TD run for his second career rushing score. Lagway became the 11^th different Bear in program history to score five or more touchdowns in a single game.

Additionally, Lagway's 300+-yard passing effort was the fourth of his career and second of the season. He found 10 different receivers and spread the ball to four different TD scorers, spearheading a Baylor offense that put up 564 yards of total offense, its most in a single game since Sept. 27, 2025, at Oklahoma State (612). BU's 55 points are the most scored by any Big 12 team in a conference game so far in 2026.

Morris provided quite the spark for the Bears with 84 rushing yards and his first-career touchdown. His night was highlighted by a 63-yard TD run on BU's second drive, a massive jolt for the offense on just its fifth play from scrimmage. Morris co-led the team in rushing alongside sophomore Caden Knighten, who also posted 84 yards, as the duo helped Baylor rack up 244 yards on the ground, the team's most in a Big 12 game since Nov. 2, 2024, vs. TCU (257).

This week's awards are Baylor's second and third of the 2026 campaign, marking the third straight season for the program with three or more weekly Big 12 honors. Lagway earned BU's 29^th Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award all-time, while Morris collected the school's second Big 12 Freshman of the Week accolade since the conference started awarding it in 2025.
