
No. 14 WT Defeats Cincinnati 6-1 to Open Big 12 Gauntlet

WACO, Texas – No. 14 Baylor women's tennis (10-1, 1-0) took down Cincinnati (6-2, 0-1), 6-1, on Friday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center.
In the conference opener, the Bears lost the doubles point, but bounced back with a singles sweep to earn their tenth win of the season and have a 10-1 record for the third time in the last 10 seasons.
THE RUNDOWN
Starting off the match in doubles, the duo of Zuzanna Kubacha and Wenfei Yu fell on Court Two, 6-1. Competing on Court One for the first time this season, Sierra Berry and Na Dong were able to earn a, 6-4, victory, leaving the doubles point up to Court Three.
Brooke Thompson and Kennedy Gibbs could not complete the comeback and fell to the Bearcat's Zeynep Erman and Milica Popovski, 6-4, making it just the second time this season the Bears did not claim the doubles point.
In singles, sophomore Kubacha took Court Two in dominant fashion, earning a, 6-0, 6-2, dub to tie up the match, remaining undefeated in spring dual matches. On Court Three, freshman No. 80 Dong defeated Gabrielle Guenther, 6-3, 6-2, to give BU the 2-1 lead.
Senior Cristina Tiglea stayed hot on Court One, garnering a, 6-2, 7-5, victory to extend the Bears' lead. Clinching the match for the BU, Gibbs earned a hard-fought 7-6 (5), 6-2 win to give Baylor its first conference win of the season.
Playing through the match, Yu lost her first set 3-6, however, she claimed the second and third sets, 6-3, 6-2. On Court Six, freshman Nanaka Sato secured the singles sweep for BU, picking up a 6-3, 3-6 3-2 (7) win.
