URBANA-CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – Baylor women's tennis (7-1) bests Illinois (3-6), 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Atkins Tennis Center.
The Bears earned their sixth doubles point of the season and took wins on Courts One, Three and Four to pick up their seventh win of the season.
THE RUNDOWN
To start off doubles, the Fighting Illini's McKenna Schaefbauer and Kasia Treiber picked up a Court Three win against Zuzanna Kubacha and Wenfei Yu, 6-1. On Court Two, the duo of Na Dong and Sierra Berry was able to earn a 6-3 decision to leave the doubles point to the ranked match on Court One.
The No. 14 pair of Liubov Kostenko and Cristina Tiglea was able to best the No. 61 Megan Heuser and Kida Ferrari, 6-3, to earn the doubles point for BU and get their first ranked win as a duo.
In singles, Tiglea started off hot on Court One garnering a, 6-3, 6-4, dub to extend Baylor's lead. No. 117 Kubacha continued to roll for the Bears with a 6-3, 6-2 victory on Court Three.
In a back and forth first set, Illinois' Heuser was able to best Kostenko after a second set, claiming a, 7-5, 6-1, win to put the Fighting Illini on the board.
Falling short in her first set, freshman No. 85 Dong was able to take the second set 6-2 to force a third set. In the third, Dong showed her dominance and was able to complete the comeback with a, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, decision to give the Bears their seventh win of the season.
