
20-Point Duo Lifts No. 16 WBB Over Lindenwood, 76-63

WACO, Texas – No. 16 Baylor women's basketball prevailed in its home opener at the Paul and Alejandra Foster Pavilion over Lindenwood, defeating the Lions, 76-63, on Sunday afternoon.
Taliah Scott led all scorers with 29 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including five 3-pointers, while adding three rebounds and three assists in her 17th game past the 20-point mark. Bella Fontleroy posted a near double-double with 26 points and eight rebounds, connecting on 9-of-15 shots from the field and four 3-pointers in her fourth career game with over 20 points.
Baylor (2-0) came out firing, scoring the game's first 18 points, holding Lindenwood without a basket for over six minutes. Fontleroy scored 10 of her points in the opening period, including a pair of 3-pointers during the early run. Scott added eight points in the first quarter as the Bears built a 24-9 lead.
BU extended its advantage to as much as 23 points midway through the second quarter after Scott converted three consecutive free throws and drained another 3-pointer on the next possession.
Lindenwood (1-1) found their rhythm in the third quarter, hitting 64 percent from the field to trim the deficit to 63-50 heading into the fourth. The Lions were led by guard Ellie Brueggemann, who finished with 20 points and four 3-pointers, while Gracie Kelsey and Gracy Wernli each added 10 points.
Baylor regained control early in the final quarter when Fontleroy hit a 3-pointer from the corner followed by a long-range make from Scott to stretch the lead back to double digits. The Bears limited Lindenwood to just 25 percent shooting in the fourth, holding on to secure the 13-point victory.
Kiersten Johnson scored 10 points off her career-first multi-3-pointer game, while true-freshman Marcayla Johnson saw her first six shots from the free throw line, sinking four. Darianna Littlepage-Buggs was held to just five points and six rebounds, and Kayla Nelms had her first two points of the season. Jana Van Gytenbeek had a game-high six assists in 28 minutes on the court.
The Bears are back in action on the road in Sin City, facing UNLV on Friday night at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be live on CBS Sports Network and the Baylor Sports Media Network.
