LAS VEGAS – Baylor women's basketball used a dominant fourth quarter and another 20-point showing from Taliah Scott to pull away from UNLV, 62-54, at COX Pavilion on Friday night.
Baylor trailed 49-43 entering the final period but outscored the Lady Rebels 19-5 over that last frame, holding UNLV to just one field goal in the last nine minutes of play before a sellout crowd.
Scott fueled the comeback with nine fourth-quarter points, including a pair of go-ahead buckets. Her layup with just under five minutes left on the clock gave Baylor a 52–51 lead, its first of the fourth quarter, and the Bears never trailed again. She finished 8-of-18 from the field and added five assists on the night.
Darianna Littlepage-Buggs delivered nine points and a team-high 12 rebounds, while Kiersten Johnson's career-high five blocks aided the Bears to 11 shots swatted on the evening, with nine points and six boards. BU's 11 blocks are the most since the conference opener against Kansas last season.
UNLV led by as many as eight in the third quarter behind a surge of four 3-pointers, shooing 53.8% from the field in that period before burning out at just 2-of-9 in the fourth quarter.
Baylor found its footing early in the fourth, as Yuting Deng hit back-to-back jumpers to trim the deficit to four in her Baylor-best eight-point showing. After Scott's go-ahead layup, Baylor delivered the knockout blow with an 8-1 run in the final two minutes, capped by a pair of free throws from Kyla Abraham.
Bella Fontleroy added five points and seven rebounds for the Bears, who outrebounded UNLV 41-38, after trailing in the boards, 21-17, at halftime.
Freshman Marcayla Johnson strung together another solid performance in a career-best 23 minutes on the floor, scoring two clutch buckets with a pair of blocks.
The Bears have a quick turnaround back home when they host Le Moyne at Foster Pavilion with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
