WACO, Texas – No. 23 Baylor Soccer welcomes Texas State in the first round of the NCAA Division I Soccer Championship on Friday, Nov. 14, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. CT at Betty Lou Mays Field. The matchup marks Baylor's seventh NCAA Tournament appearance and the eighth time the Bears have hosted postseason play in front of their home crowd.
The Bears (12-4-4, 7-3-1 Big 12) enter the matchup riding the momentum of a semifinal run in the Big 12 Tournament, where they battled eventual champion BYU before falling 4-0. Baylor's strong regular season earned the squad a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament, following its most successful campaign since 2018, when the Bears tallied 20 wins and made a run to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
The Bearcats (10-3-7, 5-1-4 SBC) make their way to Waco after clinching the Sun Belt Conference Championship, punching their NCAA ticket with a 1-0 victory over ULM in the title match. This appearance marks Texas State's sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament, and its first since 2011.
The two programs will meet for the eighth time in series history, with Baylor holding an undefeated 5-0-2 record against Texas State. The teams already faced off earlier this season, when the Bears notched a 4-1 road victory in San Marcos. This matchup also marks the second time the two have squared off in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, with Baylor previously earning a 3-0 win in 2011.
This NCAA postseason bid marks a milestone for head coach Michelle Lenard, representing her first NCAA Tournament appearance at the helm of the Baylor program. Under her leadership this year the Bears have both achieved their winningest season and advanced to their deepest run in the Big 12 Tournament since her arrival.
With a win, the Bears would face the winner of fourth-seeded Wisconsin and Western Michigan on Thursday Nov. 20. That matchup will also be decided at 7 p.m. CT on Friday.
Tickets to watch this matchup on the Banks of the Brazos are on sale now. Students get in free when showing their university ID.
Live stats for the match will be available online with updates provided on social media.
