Bears close regular season in the bayou
BATON ROUGE, La. – Baylor track and field heads to Louisiana to compete in the LSU Invitational at the Bernie Moore Stadium on Saturday. The one-day meet begins with 10:30 a.m. with the women's hammer throw. Running events begin on the track at 2:30 p.m.
Baylor joins the small collegiate field of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indian Hills Community College LSU, New Orleans Ole Miss and Tennessee. Tiger Olympians and Canada Athletics will also be represented at the meet by professional athletes.
BU's men find spot No. 22 in the USTFCCCA track & field ratings index, as the Tigers welcome in five top-10 men's teams (No. 1 Arkansas, No. 3 Tennessee, No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 LSU and No. 6 Florida) and four top-10 women's teams (No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Arkansas, No. 5 LSU and No. 8 Georgia)
The Bears hold six top-10 national marks with one regular season meet left. The men's 4x400 set marks four and six from races ran at the Texas Relays and Michael Johnson Invitational, respectively. Nathaniel Ezekiel is third in the 400-meter hurdles, followed by Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi fourth in the javelin, Annamaria Kostarellis seventh in the 10,000 meters and the women's 4x400 claim the 10th spot.
There have already been five new program records set, as Kostarellis took the 5,000 and 10,000 meters, Ryan Day in the 5,000 meters, Gary Moore Jr. in the hammer throw and the 4x200-meter relay all recorded program-leading marks.
So far this season BU has competed in three of the world top-10 meets, as ranked by World Athletics. Florida's Tom Jones Memorial reins at the top of the list, followed by Texas Relays second and the hometown Michael Johnson Invitational in eighth.
