Bears set to host No. 9 UT Martin, South Dakota State in Waco
WACO, Texas – No. 8 Baylor equestrian (2-4, 2-1) is set to host No. 9 UT Martin (2-3, 2-0) on Friday at 11 a.m. and South Dakota State (1-3, 1-2) on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco to kickstart its spring season.
BU returns to action following a two-month hiatus after previously defeating Fresno State, 11-7, on Nov. 18 in its last time out. A 4-1 win over the Bulldogs in Reining helped secure the victory as fifth-year senior Madaline Callaway led the way with a 73.
In the win, senior Dominika Silvestri (Jumping Seat) recorded her second Most Outstanding Perfomer honor of the season in Flat, while sophomore Alexis Rutledge (Horsemanship) and senior Andie Pratt (Reining) both collected their first MOP awards of the year. Freshman Lauren Reid and senior Maddie Vorhies both carry a three-meet win streak in Fences, as both are averaging scores over an 81 this season.
Baylor heads into the weekend undefeated all-time against both UT Martin (8-0) and South Dakota State (6-0). The Bears have not hosted the Skyhawks in Waco since 2018, while last meeting the Jackrabbits in 2020. In its last three contests against UTM, Baylor is averaging nearly a 10-point margin of victory (9.67), while BU has put up double-digit performances in every previous matchup with SDSU.
Live scoring will be available for both meets and can be found here.
The Bears will hit the road the following weekend to Fresno, Calif., with meets against Minnesota Crookston and a rematch with Fresno State on Feb. 3-4.
