Britta Snyder Leads the Field; One of Five Bears in the Top-10
KAPOLEI, Hawaii – The Baylor women's golf team dominated their way to a 12-shot on Monday in round one of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
Five of Baylor's six players finished inside the top-10 led by Britta Snyder, who leads by one over Cal State Fullerton's Elina Saksa, after a three-under 69.
Snyder started her day with a birdie at the first, one of four front-nine birdies for her. She stayed hot on the back-nine with a birdie at No. 11, which started a run of three birdies in a four-hole stretch.
Gurleen Kaur and Rosie Belsham are just two shots back of Snyder in a tie for 3rd after each shot a 1-under 71 on Monday. Belsham got off to a quick start with a birdie at the third, and another one at par-5 seventh to put her at one-under for the day. An even-par 36 coming home, got Belsham in the clubhouse with a 71.
Kaur got off to a steady start with three straight pars, followed by her first birdie of the day at the par-4 fourth. Kaur played her next 13 holes at one-over-par before punctuating her round with a birdie at the par-4 18th.
Antonia Matte and Hannah Karg both finished in a tie for sixth at plus-one. Matte birdied No. 1 and finished with 16 pars over her next 17 holes for a one-over 73.
Playing as an individual this week, Karg bounced back from an early bogey with a birdie at the par-3 eighth, to shoot an even-par 36 on the front-nine. She finished with nine pars over her next ten holes to complete round one with a one-over 73.
BaiMai Seema finished inside the top-15 after a 3-over 75 in her opening round on Monday.
HIGHLIGHTS
Head Coach Jay Goble -- "It was a solid start on a windy and challenging day," Goble said. "I think the golf course played a little tricky today with the normal Oahu trade winds blowing about 15-20 mph all day. Over the next two days, we will have a lighter wind and I believe we now have a solid grasp on how to score on this course. I believe they will be ready for a solid round tomorrow"
