Bears fall short in sloppy conditions to hosting Hoyas
THE RUNDOWN
WASHINGTON, D.C. – No. 11 Baylor soccer (20-6-0) saw its second-straight season end in the NCAA Soccer Championship quarterfinals, dropping a 3-0 decision at No. 2 Georgetown (20-0-3) on Saturday afternoon at Shaw Field on the GU campus.
With temperatures hovering around 40 degrees and over an inch of steady rainfall, the natural grass of Shaw Field quickly turned to a mud pit, with both sides struggling to maintain footing down the stretch.
As a No. 2 national seed, the Bears were paired with Georgetown's No. 1 seeding, with the Hoyas coming out firing in the opening stretch.
GU took 10 of its 15 first half shots in the opening 15 minutes, also earning five corners over that stretch. The Hoyas scored the lone first half goal on a corner in the eighth minute.
Jennifer Wandt kept the Bears in the match, making seven saves over the 90, five of those coming in the first period.
Georgetown added goals in the 50th and 76th minutes, proving to be an insurmountable lead for the Bears to overcome, with BU only able to put in six shots to GU's 24.
