May 11, 2017 Bailey and Shattuck Scorecards 
AUSTIN, Texas -- Baylor men's golfers Hunter Shattuck and Braden Bailey both advanced through 2017 U.S. Open local qualifying by shooting 4-under-par 68 Tuesday at Wolfdancer Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
Shattuck and Bailey tied for the tournament lead and earned two of the eight spots awarded for U.S. Open sectional qualifying on June 5. Sectional assignments are announced May 25, and the closest sectional is at Lakewood Country Club in Dallas. Matthew Perrine came up one stroke short, tying for 10th place at 2-under 70. Cooper Dossey tied for 24th place at even-par 72, and Austin Cotton shot 2-over 74 to tie for 47th place.
Sectional qualifying consists of 36 holes at 12 sites -- 10 in the United States and two overseas. Ono City, Japan hosts sectional qualifying on May 22, Surrey, England is May 29 and the 10 U.S. sites will be played on June 5. The 117th U.S. Open Championship is June 15-18 at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis.
Both Shattuck and Bailey made birdies on their final two holes to clinch their spots at sectional qualifying. Shattuck, a senior from Jacksonville, Texas, had only one blemish on his scorecard, a bogey on the par-4 15th hole. He made birdies on the par-5 third, the par-4 seventh, the par-5 14th, the par-3 17th and the par-5 18th.
Bailey, a sophomore from Groves, Texas, made a late charge to claim his spot, shooting 4-under-par over his final four holes. He took the turn at 2-over after a double bogey on the par-4 ninth, but he rebounded with four birdies, an eagle and four pars to shoot 6-under 30 on the back-nine. Bailey birdied the par-4 first, the par-4 seventh, the par-4 10th, the par-3 12th, the par-3 17th and the par-5 18th. He also made an eagle on the par-4 15th hole and had bogeys on the par-4 second and par-3 sixth.
Prior to turning their attention to sectional qualifying, Shattuck and Bailey will play for Baylor in the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship. The Bears open as the No. 2 seed at the NCAA Stanford Regional, which runs Monday through Wednesday at Stanford Golf Course. The top five teams at each of the six Regional sites advance to the NCAA National Championships, which run May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
