THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor baseball dropped a 7-4 decision to Sam Houston State on Tuesday evening at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears (20-13) rallied to take a 4-2 lead in the sixth but it did not stand as the Bearkats (24-9) countered for the win.

Trailing 2-0 after the first inning, the Bears took advantage of opportunities in the sixth to grab a 4-2 lead. Kameron Esthay started the rally with a one-out single and Aaron Dodson followed with a double. After a pitching change, a wild pitch scored Esthay. Following a walk to Davis Wendzel, pitching change and Richard Cunningham RBI ground out, Josh Bissonette walked and a pop up off the bat of Tucker Cascadden turned into a two-run, three-base error.

However, SHSU rallied for three runs in the seventh on a hit, error and four walks, one run in the eight and another in the ninth on a home run.

Bearkats reliever Kyle Backhus (2-1) earned the win, allowing an unearned run with one walk and one strikeout in 0.2 innings. BU reliever Kyle Hill (3-3) took the loss, giving up an unearned run on two walks.

NOTES
*Baylor is 6-3 in midweek games this season but has lost three straight.
