Track & Field Closes Out Texas Relays Competition

AUSTIN, Texas -
Baylor's track and field squads closed out the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Spectrum at Mike A. Myers Stadium Saturday.

Senior Cion Hicks capped the day in the field events for BU by winning the Texas Relays shot put title with a best throw of 55-0.75 [16.78m]. The Killeen, Texas, product led throughout the competition, but recorded her top throw on her final attempt. The mark is tied for 10th-best in school history. It is the second-straight shot put event title for Hicks, who last week won the Roadrunners Invitational crown.

Earlier in the day, sophomore Taylor Bennett raced to a runner-up finish in the 100-meter dash finals with a season-best time of 11.34. That mark was just .01 seconds off her personal-best mark and is currently tied for the sixth-fastest time in the NCAA for 2017.

The men's 4x400-meter relay of Maxwell Willis, Wil London, Caleb Dickson and George Caddick captured second place in the invitational section with a season-best time of 3:03.11. BU was third in the race through the first three legs, but Caddick split 44.84 on the anchor to help the Bears past Texas Tech for the runner-up spot.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the men's quartet of Malik Wilson, Wil London, Maxwell Willis and Ian Braxton placed third in 39.58.

Baylor's 4x800-meter men's relay of Zak Curran, Danny Leland, TJ Sugg and Brandon Moore netted a fourth-place finish in a time of 7:33.97.

OTHER NOTABLES
- The women's 4x4 crew of Taylor Bennett, Kiana Hawn, Kiana Horton, Leticia De Souza were fourth in the invitational section with a season-best time of 3:33.03.
- The women's 4x1 crew of Kiana Horton, Taylor Bennett, Juanita Mainoo, Jhane' King raced to a sixth-place finish in a time of 44.70.
- Senior Rhys Phillips finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdle final with a time of 14.65.

WHAT'S NEXT
Next Saturday, Baylor will host its first home meet of the 2017 season with the Baylor Invitational. Field events begin at 10 a.m. and running finals start at 3 p.m. at Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium.
