2016-17 Baylor Equestrian Schedule
WACO, Texas - Baylor equestrian released its 14-meet schedule for the 2016-17 season, including nine home meets and hosting the 2016 national champion Auburn team.
The Bears kick off the fall schedule with a scrimmage against SMU in Dallas on Sept. 17, officially opening the season on the road against South Carolina in Columbia on Sept. 23.
The following weekend, Baylor hosts the ninth-annual Willis Invitational, bringing in Fresno State, New Mexico State, and South Dakota State for the two-day, three-meet tournament, running Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
Other nonconference home opponents include SMU on Oct. 29, Delaware State on Nov. 11, and defending national champion Auburn to close the regular season on Mar. 3.
The final nonconference road trip is a return to the Fresno Invitational in Fresno, Calif., running Feb. 10-11 against Fresno State and an additional opponent still to be determined.
The Bears will play through a double round robin Big 12 schedule, facing each of its two Big 12 opponents, Oklahoma State and TCU, once at home and once on the road.
Baylor starts with a trip to Stillwater to face OSU on Oct. 22, followed by hosting TCU to close the fall schedule on No. 12.
Returning from the break, it will be a rematch between the Bears and Horned Frogs in Ft. Worth on Jan. 26. The final conference meet will be in Waco against OSU on Feb. 4.
For postseason, the Bears stay home to host both the Big 12 Championship and the NCEA National Championship. The conference tournament will run Mar. 24-25 at the Willis Family Equestrian Center and the NCEA returns to Waco and the Extraco Events Center for the 11th-straight year.
The Bears are coming off a 13-5 season in 2015-16, falling to national runner-up TCU in the NCEA quarterfinals on a raw score tiebreaker.
