THE RUNDOWN
MANHATTAN, Kan. ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor baseball fell in an 11-7 decision to Kansas State on Saturday afternoon at Tointon Stadium to even up the series. The Bears (18-21, 5-9) rallied for a 6-2 lead but were unable to hang on against the Wildcats (17-22, 4-10) in a slugfest.
Trailing 2-0 after the first inning, Aaron Dodson launched a solo homer for BU in the second and Kameron Esthay did the same to leadoff the fourth. Then with two outs in the fourth, two-out singles by Matt Menard and T.J. Raguse led to RBI singles by Justin Arrington and Josh Bissonette before Richard Cunningham hit a two-run triple to give BU a 6-2 edge.
However, KSU answered with three runs on six hits in the fourth to cut the deficit to one. In the fifth, the Wildcats kept on working as they scored four runs on two hits, an HBP, two walks and a two-run single for a 9-6 lead.
Baylor answered in the sixth with a leadoff homer by Menard but it was the last run the Bears scored, and Jake Scudder responded in the bottom half with a two-run shot for an 11-7 lead that stood.
KSU starter Levi MaVorhis (5-3) received the win despite allowing seven runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts in six innings. BU reliever Nick Lewis (1-4) took the loss, giving up four runs on three hits and two walks in 0.2 innings.
