WACO, Texas - After winning its first National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) national championship, Baylor will enter the 2016 NCATA season favored to repeat after receiving nine first-place votes in the annual NCATA Preseason Coaches Poll. The poll is voted on by the current contingent of NCATA head coaches.
"Preseason polls are always exciting, we appreciate the recognition and respect," said Baylor head coach Felecia Mulkey. "However, wins and losses come down to execution on meet day. That is where our focus is right now as we prepare for our first meet. As the sport continues to grow all of the teams are getting better, it's going to be an exciting year." Mulkey and assistant coaches Angela Ucci and Emily Maike welcomed 13 newcomers to the acrobatics & tumbling program for 2016. The Bears returned 28 letterwinners from the 2015 NCATA championship squad including the reigning NCATA Player of the Year Kiara Nowlin and NCATA Freshman of the Year Shayla Moore.
The Bears will kick off the season on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. (CT), at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn.
