THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas -- Baylor soccer won its exhibition match 1-0 over Samford Monday evening at Betty Lou Mays Field. The Bears used an 11th-minute goal from freshman Julie James and their trademark stellar defense to secure the shutout.
James did not waste much time to make an impact with the program as Emory Cason served up a free kick from 30 yards out to James in the box for a header goal. From there out, the Bears locked in on defense as they allowed only six shots while posting 11 of their own.
Junior newcomer Jody Lee played all 90 minutes for Baylor at goalkeeper to earn the shutout with three saves, one of which was a diving effort to keep Samford scoreless.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"First of all, what a blessing to be part of this program. We are so blessed by our facilities and the young people we were able to bring in. We showed a lot of depth tonight, especially with our young people. Brought in 15 new faces and tonight to step into an environment where we have only trained together for four to five days, that showed a lot of grit. Our mentality was tough tonight and that is what we wanted to bring. We showed that we have some veterans that are great leaders. We said we are going to be a mix of great leadership and some young great players and I think we showed that tonight. We have a lot of growth from here. We are only five to six days in, but I'm excited about where we are right now and where we are going." -- Head Coach Paul Jobson
