THE RUNDOWN
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Baylor (19-28, 8-13) slugged its way to a 14-4 win over Kansas (20-28, 7-11) to claim a series win on Sunday afternoon at Hoglund Ballpark. The Bears were led by Darryn Sheppard's two home runs and five RBI.

Sheppard's first blast came in the second inning and was of the three-run variety. He then launched another in the seventh for two more runs.

The RBI by Sheppard were enough for starter Daniel Castano to work with as he only ran into real trouble in the third and sixth innings. He allowed a run on two hits and a wild pitch in the third and two runs in the sixth on two hits, two walks and a wild pitch.

The Bears also rallied in the fourth. Mitch Price led off with an HBP and Matt Menard walked. Sheppard then tried to lay down a sacrifice bunt but a throwing error by the pitcher allowed Price to score and moved both runners up. Justin Arrington grounded out to score Menard and Jonathan Ducoff followed with a single to score Sheppard.

In the fifth after leadoff singles by Kameron Esthay and Price, Menard notched an RBI single. Aaron Dodson topped off the scoring for Baylor with a two-run homer in the eighth to score Adam Toth after a leadoff single.

The Jayhawks added a run in the eighth on a solo homer by Blair Beck, but the Bear rallied again in the ninth. Sheppard, Arrington and Steven McLean all walked to begin the inning. Logan Brown followed with a two-run single. After a Levi Gilcrease walk, a run scored on a wild pitch.

Castano (3-5) earned the win after giving up three runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout in seven innings. KU starter Sean Rackoski (2-4) took the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits and three walks with one strikeout in four innings.

NOTES
*Baylor leads the all-time series vs. Kansas 48-17 overall, 43-17 under Steve Smith and 19-11 in Lawrence. Last season, the Jayhawks swept the Bears in Waco on April 25-27, 2014, to give KU a six-game winning streak in the series. BU then avenged the sweeps by ending the Jayhawks' run in the Big 12 Championship as No. 7 seed BU won 4-3 in an elimination game over No. 3 seed KU on May 22, 2014, in Oklahoma City. Baylor has won 14 of the 19 all-time Big 12 series between the teams.

*Baylor is 5-15 on the road and 5-18 away from Baylor Ballpark this season.

*As one of the league's founding members in 1997, Baylor owns a 496-562-4 record against the current members of the Big 12 Conference and a 276-222 all-time record in regular season play.

*Baylor is 139-129 in May/June under Steve Smith and 2-1 this year.

*Baylor has won five of its 11 three-game series in 2015 and 21 of 43 since 2012.

*Baylor won its first road series of the season and first since taking two of three at Oklahoma on May 2-4, 2014.

*Baylor hit multiple home runs in a game for this first time this season and the three homers were BU's first game with that many since Feb. 26, 2012, at UCLA.

*Baylor scored a season-high 14 runs, which are the most since scoring 15 against Austin Peay on Feb. 22, 2014.

*Darryn Sheppard hit his first two homers of the season and fourth and fifth of his career - the three-run shot and two-run shot gave him a career high RBI total (5) for a single game. He's the first Bear with a multi-homer game since Grayson Porter did so on March 30, 2013, against Kansas State, which was also the last time a Baylor player drove in five runs. It was his fifth multi-hit and first multi-RBI game of the season.

*Aaron Dodson hit the third homer of the season and sixth of his career. His two-run shot gave him his fourth multi-RBI game.

*Adam Toth has reached base in his last nine games as he posted his eighth multi-hit game.

*Logan Brown has a hit in his last four games as he had his team-high 18th multi-hit game and sixth multi-RBI game.

*Matt Menard has a hit in his last three games.

*Mitch Price has reached base in his last three games as he had his eight multi-hit game and third three-hit game.

STAT OF THE GAME
3 - The amount of homers hit by Baylor, marking the first time BU has done so since Feb. 26, 2012, at UCLA.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"What's really interesting is that we struck out one guy today and two guys yesterday and threw two of the games in this series in under 100 pitches - we were going right at them. We attacked the strike zone with a lot of fastballs. The way we pitched it this weekend was really good." - Baylor head coach Steve Smith

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor takes a week off for finals before hosting UTSA on Tuesday, May 12, at Baylor Ballpark.
